# Upgrade

Update Pathfinder on Sepolia Testnet while preserving its database.

**Sepolia Testnet · Pathfinder / Docker Compose**

Use the project directory from [Pathfinder Node](/testnet/starknet/pathfinder-node.md). Review [release notes](https://github.com/software-mansion/pathfinder/releases) for migration requirements.

### Open the project

Use the correct network’s configuration.

```bash
cd "$HOME/pathfinder-sepolia"
```

### Record the current image

Keep the image reference for diagnosis.

```bash
sudo docker compose images
```

### Select the reviewed release

Update only the image line; preserve all network, port and volume settings.

```bash
sed -i 's|image: swmansion/pathfinder:.*|image: swmansion/pathfinder:v0.24.2|' compose.yaml
```

### Pull before downtime

Fetch the selected image.

```bash
sudo docker compose pull pathfinder
```

### Stop cleanly

Wait for the database to close.

```bash
sudo docker compose stop pathfinder
```

### Back up the stopped database

Use a new backup path and ensure there is enough free space.

```bash
cp -a data "data.backup-$(date +%Y%m%d-%H%M%S)"
```

### Recreate the container

Compose uses the new image with the existing data directory.

```bash
sudo docker compose up -d pathfinder
```

### Watch migration and startup

Wait for migration to finish; avoid interrupting it.

```bash
sudo docker compose logs --tail 100 -f pathfinder
```

### Verify sync

Confirm the node returns to the network tip.

```bash

```

Keep the backup until the upgrade is healthy. A database migration may make downgrading the image alone unsafe.

## Attestation service

If installed, upgrade the attestation container separately. Stop it, pull the selected release, and recreate it with the same operational account and network settings from [Validator & Attestation](/testnet/starknet/validator.md). Check confirmed attestations after restart.
